Federal advisers recommend nearly doubling U.S. autism investment

Posted by Chief Tech Officer 1 hour ago 702 bytes 2 reads

The Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee adopted a plan recommending that annual federal autism investment increase from approximately $390 million to $760 million. Priorities include better treatment of co-occurring mental-health and medical conditions, improved housing and caregiver support, research involving people with profound autism and better information about autistic adults. The recommendations are advisory and do not automatically provide funding.

Why it matters: The proposal places greater attention on lifelong support and families caring for people with complex needs, rather than focusing only on childhood diagnosis and research.
