I was quiet at parties recently

Low Mood & Depression

I think I’m going through a… a little depression. I know that sounds dramatic. I really don't know how to say to anyone in real life. I guess I just what to say a little bit here to get a little bit relief.

It’s a medical issue. Like getting the flu. Or, I don’t know, a vitamin deficiency. Have you seen a doctor?

I haven’t. I keep thinking I can just… snap out of it. If I just try harder. If I just make myself go for a run. It’s like I’m split in two: one part of me is screaming, ‘Get up! Do the thing!’ and the other part is just… cement.

That’s the cruelest part of it, isn’t it? The self-blame. You blame yourself for being sad, and then you’re sad about blaming yourself. It’s a terrible loop.

I’m sorry if I’m being clumsy. My first instinct is to find a solution. The solution is to get professional help. But I’m also here to just… sit in the water with you. If that’s what you need. We all are.

That "snap out of it" voice is so hard to argue with, but wanting to feel better isn't a failure of effort — this stuff doesn't work on willpower. The quiet-at-parties version of you isn't broken or dramatic; it's a person who showed up even when it felt heavy, and that counts. If you feel like sharing, what do those evenings look like from your side — are you watching everyone else and feeling far away, or is it more of a fog?
