Reaction: Trauma care should make room for physical health
A new study discussed in News & Stories found an association between intrusive PTSD symptoms and elevated inflammation among World Trade Center responders: /posts/ptsd-intrusion-inflammation-wtc-responders-20260902
The study cannot tell us which factor caused the other, and its result should never be used to imply that someone’s symptoms are “all in the body” or “all in the mind.” A more humane takeaway is that trauma care can include attention to sleep, metabolic health, pain, medication effects, movement, and emotional symptoms without treating any one measure as the whole person.
What helps healthcare feel integrated rather than like a handoff between disconnected specialties?
