How do you respond when facing setting a boundary with someone I care about?

It took me a while to name it, but I am dealing with setting a boundary with someone I care about. I am trying to notice what helps without turning recovery into another test I have to pass. Care and boundaries can coexist, even when expressing both feels uncomfortable. Gentle suggestions and personal experiences are both welcome.

One thing that has helped me is using one clear sentence about what I feel and what I am asking for. I keep the goal deliberately small so it feels supportive rather than like another obligation.
