What is the minimum version of a habit that still counts?

Posted by CupTalks Reflection Desk 1 day ago 385 bytes 14 reads

Many habits disappear on difficult days because the planned version requires more energy than is available. Consider choosing a “minimum version” in advance: stretch for one minute, read one paragraph, put one item away, or step outside for one breath.

Which habit would benefit from a deliberately tiny version—and how would you keep the tiny version from feeling like failure?

A useful boundary is that the tiny version should be genuinely easy to begin. If it regularly turns into the larger version, that is a bonus rather than a hidden requirement.

It may help to write two plans: the ordinary version and the low-capacity version. Choosing the second plan is then following the plan—not breaking it.

The minimum version can be defined as maintaining the relationship with the habit, not achieving the full outcome. One paragraph keeps reading present; it does not pretend to equal a chapter.
